When I first started out on my emergency preparedness journey, I divided up what “prepared” meant to me, into 6 categories. I had put a lot of time into some of my categories, and none into others. One that I had neglected was the area of Safety and Protection. Getting comfortable with a firearm would be my next goal. I started out on the internet to just get an idea of what was out there and came across The Well Armed Woman website. This has been a gold mine of information!
The website was started by Carrie Lightfoot, a published author, national speaker, NRA certified pistol instructor, who has a slue of awards. She states that the lack of information for women in a male driven firearm industry is what prompted her to start her company. Her goals are to educate, equip and empower women, giving them a sense of community by learning and training together.
As I was browsing her site, I came across Women’s Survival Stories under the menu item Women and Guns. There are 30 some stories here of actual readers who have wrote in to tell their story. Some are stories of women who became a victim, vowing to never let that happen again. Stories of those who had averted being a victim because they had a firearm and knew how to use it. Stories of home invasions and assaults while walking to work. “Alle’s Story” is thought provoking and “A Story About Home Invasions” will leave you with a new resolve to refuse to be a victim.
I went on a reading marathon to 4:00 am the next morning, completely mesmerized by these women’s stories. These weren’t fictional women but real women who had gone through horrific ordeals, and came out stronger and empowered.
These stories are just a small part of what this website offers. Below are some other offerings. Check the site out!
